Mission Statement:

Brett Roberts uses humor, magic, puppetry and story telling to encourage children to read books and learn. His goal is to entertain, while helping children to be educated and tolerant. They will learn while laughing.

Hi there! I’m Brett Roberts.

After spending seven years teaching elementary school and twenty five years in the entertainment industry, I am the perfect educational entertainer. In all my forty-five minute productions, I keep things fast paced and fun. Children are used to watching television where they see something different every couple of minutes. I keep that in mind when I'm developing my presentations. Every few minutes you'll see something new. Children will gain knowledge and moral values. They will be laughing, enlightened, involved, and amazed. I will give you a performance that everyone will be talking about for years to come.

Here's what other people are saying about my educational shows:

"Thank you so much for performing at our spring BookFair Family Event. You were TERRIFIC! - students and faculty at Forman Elementary were absolutely THRILLED with your performance and have requested a repeat performances. Our teaching staff was very impressed with your connection with the children during the show and the PTA was very impressed with your selection of theme shows. You are the top of our list for family entertainers and we look forward to booking more of your shows." -- Carolyn Linscott (Forman Elementary)
"How fortunate were our students to have had the opportunity last Thursday, May 21. The talent that you are blessed with was so appreciated and enjoyed by our students and staff at Maple Lawn Elementary school. You had the children fully engaged 100% of the time and they loved it. Those birds were hysterical! They even had me almost believing they were real! I wish you bounteous good fortune so that you are able to share your message of health and wisdom with children for many years to come. Thank you for being here with us." -- Lila Gay Goff (Principal, Maple Lawn Elementary School)
"Brett Roberts put on an excellent show that got our students excited about reading. The students were engaged for the entire 45 minute program. Mr. Roberts' production was as humorous as it was educational. My students are excited to learn about their favorite animals by reading about them in books." -- Autumn Mcneff (O.H. Stowe Elementary)

Magic School

Brett Roberts' Magic School starts off with an exciting, age appropriate magic show. After this thirty minute show, there is a magic class where children get to demonstrate the magic tricks they’ve learned. The Magic School will last a full hour! Several teachers and librarians helped to create this magical event. Magic tricks both engage and motivate continually. "There's always another trick that builds on the motor skills they've acquired in an earlier and easier illusion," says Julie DeJean, administrative director of Stormont-Vail West, a behavioral medicine hospital in Topeka, Kansas. "For kids, that's a real motivator because they are continually amazed and delighted, and they can share these effects with their friends and parents."

Curriculum Objectives

Cognitive function
"Magic is perfect for people with brain injuries where cognitive issues have to be addressed," says DeJean. "Performing magic requires a lot of planning and sequencing —- putting things in the correct order so they work."

Speech
"To perform a magic trick the magician needs to learn patter," says DeJean. Effective magician's patter is not just talking to an audience, but using language and physical skills entwined to misdirect viewers' attention away from the sleights of hand as well. "For a lot of our patients with language deficits it's great practice."

Self-esteem
"When someone with a disability does something that another with full physical functions cannot it can help build morale and self-esteem," says DeJean. She notes that many mind reading tricks such a guessing a number involve series of complex mental mathematical calculations.

Depression
The achievement, functioning, and social give-and-take that come from practicing and performing magic often help those who are depressed.
